While Roker Pier may still be closed for repairs due to the storm so bad they called it ‘The Beast from the East’, there’s plenty of work going on behind the scenes.
We’re making sure that when the pier reopens, we’re ready for the launch of the tours of Roker Pier & Lighthouse and tours of the tunnel under the pier too.
This week our volunteers have been running training tours along the tunnel and into the lighthouse. Feedback on the tours from specially invited family and friends is proving invaluable as our volunteer tour guides hone their skills, ready for our public launch this summer.
For each tour there is a tour leader who is assisted by two further volunteers, called sweepers. The sweepers are there to follow the group into the tour and to assist the tour lead.
If you’re passing by the Roker Pier tunnel glass entrance structure and you see our volunteer groups training over the next few days, please call in and say hello. One of our friendly team will give you an information leaflet on the tours and answer any questions you may have.
