Tune in to BBC2 at 6:30pm on Monday 25th!
As part of his brand new show, The Hairy Builder, Dave Myers (one half of the Hairy Bikers duo) came to explore Roker Pier & Lighthouse and find out all about the restoration that’s been taking place.
On the show you’ll be able to get a sneak peek at what’s being going on here at Roker Pier ahead of our plans to open the lighthouse and tunnel later this year for public tours. You’ll also see what happened when Dave met the great great granddaughter of the engineer behind Roker Pier, Henry Hay Wake, as well as seeing the work that’s been taking place.
Make sure you also keep an eye out for our very own Phil Tweddell, grandson of one of the last lighthouse keepers and chairman of Roker Heritage Group!
The Hairy Builder series saw Dave tour the country with Britain’s oldest masonry company, William Anelay, as they bid to restore and preserve some of the country’s oldest and most prestigious and architecturally complex large buildings, including Roker Pier & Lighthouse!
So remember to make sure you’re watching from 6:30pm to discover more about the lighthouse and what Dave Myers thought when he visited us last autumn!
